**PAST EVENT** (AB) Intro to Backcountry Camping at Glacier Lake – June 16-17 2024

Event Details

We would like to acknowledge that this event is taking place on traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, including the Treaty 6, 7, and 8 territories. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuut’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta, as well as the unceded territory of the Ktunaxa and Secwépemc.

We love our allies, but due to limited space, this event is for BIPoC individuals only.

We are excited to roll out our Intro to Backcountry Camping Event at Glacier Lake once again! This is a great beginner friendly overnight backcountry hike to do! The elevation gain during the trip is low (approx 200m) over 8.5km till the campground. We will hike at the slowest pace to suit the group needs and take multiple breaks for snacks/food as needed! Applicants should be able to carry their packs (which can range from 30-40lbs) for the duration of the hike. Please note, our leads are experienced backpackers that will provide as much information required to have a safe trip but are not professional guides – everyone is to hike at their own risk.

Itinerary: The group will hike in from the Glacier Lake Backcountry Trail trailhead in Banff National Park on Sunday morning, stay overnight at the campground for one night, then hike out Monday morning.

Age requirement: 18+

Cost: $125 + tax includes backcountry tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, backcountry backpack (however we recommend investing in one that fits your back!) and backcountry permit. ($185 value).

*Please note the cost does not include the following:

• transportation to and from the trailhead;
• the entry fee to the National Park; and
• meals (participants are responsible to bring 2 lunches, 1 breakfast, and 1 dinner as well as your favorite snacks).

Carpooling can be arranged for those who need a ride, and is encouraged to cut cost by splitting gas, and park pass. The application will collect carpool/driver information. If you’d like to connect to the CTT Alberta Community, please join our Facebook group.

Refunds: This event falls under our Cancellation Policy for Multi-day Adventures therefore there will be no refunds for cancellations made within 20 days prior to the scheduled event. You can read our policies in full here.

Selection Process: We’ll be in touch via email between May 20 – May 24 if you are eligible for a spot in the event. Please do not contact us to ask if there’s a spot. Please add [email protected] and [email protected] to your safe sender list, otherwise our email may end up in your spam folder. 

Virtual Meeting: We will hold a virtual meeting leading up to the event. This meeting will cover what to pack, how to prepare for the weather, how to prepare food for the trip and go over the schedule, bear safety, meeting place, directions, and more! We will also have a presentation on how to book backcountry sites.

Cancellation Policy

This event falls under our Cancellation Policy for Multi-day Adventures therefore there will be no refunds made within 20 days prior to the scheduled event.

We understand that there might be exceptional circumstances that lead to last-minute cancellations or program withdrawals. If you believe your situation qualifies as an exceptional circumstance, please contact our team as soon as possible. Each case will be reviewed on an individual basis, and a decision regarding the cancellation penalty will be made accordingly.

Photo and Video Release

By purchasing a ticket you grant permission for Colour the Trails and sponsors to use any portion of the photos or videos from this event that have been taken by Colour the Trails videographers and photographers for the purpose of sharing experiences with the community and encouraging future participation in events which can include but is not limited to, print or digital versions, social media and websites without any more compensation or recognition given. Colour the Trails will not use the photographs in a manner that would exploit or cause malicious representation toward you. These photos are taken by paid photographers and will be made available to participants at the discretion of the event organizer. Please be prepared to take your own photos and videos if you want to ensure that you capture memories of your experience.
