*PAST EVENT* (ON) Community Hike and Intro to Camping Workshop

Join us on a short hike, and afterwards, join us to learn about front country camping!

Where and When

This event will be held outdoors, at Rouge National Urban Park from 10am to 1pm, and will start at the bottom of Zoo Road. Thank you to Parks Canada’s Learn to Camp team for their partnership in this event!

Who This Workshop Is For

This is a 2 part event for all BIPoC that are looking to come on a hike to build community and improve on their knowledge of camping. We will hike for 90 minutes before attending a 90 minute Learn to Camp Workshop hosted by Parks Canada to learn more about front-country camping. This session is open to all experience levels since both beginners and experienced folks can learn more about front-country camping and build community along the way.

Hike:

10am to 11:30am

Cedar and Beare Wetlands trail ; Location for Start

The hike will be led by Priya Moraes, the CTT Southern ON Lead, who will share about her hiking and camping experiences and provide some of her insights into getting comfortable with hiking.

Workshop

11:30am-1pm

Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy while we learn from Learn to Camp volunteers! Together, we will explore how to safely try camping for the first time. We will cover topics such as necessary equipment, wildlife considerations, and how to enjoy a safe campfire!

Please remember to bring:

– LOTS of water (there is no running water there),

– a chair just in case (LTC will have picnic tables and some folding chairs)

– sun protection (we have no shade- but will have some small beach tents just in case)

– printed Parking passes (will be sent via email to participants)

By purchasing a ticket you grant permission for Colour the Trails and sponsors to use any portion of the photos or videos from this event that have been taken by Colour the Trails videographers and photographers for the purpose of sharing experiences with the community and encouraging future participation in events which can include but is not limited to, print or digital versions, social media and websites without any more compensation or recognition given. Colour the Trails will not use the photographs in a manner that would exploit or cause malicious representation toward you.

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel up to 1 day before the event, but please be mindful of the limited number of tickets to this event. Last minute cancellations can mean that others who would like to attend the event are unable to due to short notice.
