- Strong intermediate hiker
Event Details
This event is primarily for Black, Indigenous and Racialized folks. If you need a non-BIPOC partner or family member to join for support, please mention it in the application.
Are you ready to experience one of the most beautiful hikes in the Sea to Sky region? Iceberg Lake near Whistler is a challenging hike but the views throughout are rewarding. The trail is approximately 18km out-and-back (meaning we’ll be going down the same way we came up) with approximately 997m in elevation gain. The hike should take approximately 7-8 hours to complete, so all participants should have some experience doing longer hikes with moderate-high (400+) elevation gain. That said, don’t be too intimidated. It is doable.

Applications will be open till end of day Wednesday Aug 20th. We will get back to everyone on 21st to confirm details.
We ask participants to come prepared for this hike as the weather might change fast and unpredictably. We have seen fresh snow up there even in August. Good boots, layers, hydration and snacks are required to join.
What to bring:
- Hiking boots (terrain will likely be muddy, with roots and rocks)
- Hiking poles (optional)
- Bug spray
- Sweat-wicking athletic clothing you can move in (no cotton!)
- Layers— your temperature may fluctuate throughout the hike, so having a fleece or warm long sleeve over your base layer, then a jacket on top is a good idea
- Rain jacket
- Toque
- Gloves
- Snacks and/or lunch
- Water
- Small backpack or bag to carry your water, food, and layers while hiking
Transportation: All participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event. Prior to the event, we will send out a carpooling sheet for participants to find/offer rides. We usually have everyone sorted.

There will be no full or partial refunds once the participation in the program is confirmed. Most of our work is done during planning and preparation stages. If a mentee needs to withdraw from the mentoring program early, there will be no fee adjustments. This includes in the case of injury as we still need to pay the instructor and cover the cost of operating the program, without a replacement participant.
Content Creation Statement
We ask to respect our work and not create content to promote any brands or organizations during our events. Our team is putting a lot of energy and time into creating community spaces with little support and unrelated organizations should not benefit from our hard labour. You are encouraged to share about Colour the Trails work as it shows the welcoming and safe space we are creating and word of mouth helps our community to grow!
