Event Details

This event is now open to allies and BIPOC!

Have you seen those people with board and sail contraptions whizzing around English Bay? Not quite sailers but also not quite surfers… Windsure Adventure Watersports is the first school in Western Canada (est. 1977), so you’ve come to the right place to learn how to windsurf!

Date: Friday, June 17

Location: Windsure Adventure Watersports – 1300 Discovery St, Vancouver, BC

Time: Lesson starts promptly at 1:30pm until 4:30pm. Please arrive at 1:15pm at the latest to meet with the instructor and gather your lifejacket, wetsuit, etc!

Requirements:

——————-

Over the course of this 3 hour lesson, learn the basics of this unique sport, including: the history of windsurfing, equipment knowledge, points of sail/ wind theory, steering, tacking, water and marine environment safety. You will spend time both on land and on the water. This course is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the sport of windsurfing.

Your Intro to Windsurfing Lesson includes use of windsurfing rig (board, sail), wetsuit and life jacket for the duration of the lesson- no need to bring your own. If you are a glasses wearer, we do however recommend bringing an eyewear retainer device so that your spectacles don’t end up at the bottom of the ocean!

There will be 4 people per session for this event.

What to Wear:

  • shoes or sandals that are okay to get wet
  • you’ll be wearing a wetsuit (provided). You can wear a bathing suit or spandex/bike short type material tights/shorts and top. Do not wear cotton as anything under the wetsuit will get wet.
  • sunscreen if it’s sunny. You can wear a hat/sunglasses but if you happen to fall in, these may fall off/become lost in the ocean – wear at your own risk

Please check the weather before the event and dress accordingly! This event will run rain or shine and will only be rescheduled based on potentially dangerous wind or weather conditions.

Please note: each participant will be responsible for getting to this event. This location is accessible by bus but there is a bit of a walk to the beach from the bus stop. Please plan accordingly so you arrive before the event start time. You can also organize carpooling through our Private Facebook Group. If you are carpooling with someone, please make sure to chip in for gas/parking.

We acknowledge that this event will take place on the on the unceded territory and traditional waters of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
