It is time to experience Black Joy On The Slopes as a community gathering!!!
Come and celebrate Black joy in the outdoors with us this Black Futures Month! We welcome all Black, mixed Black, and Afro-Indigenous folks to connect with the community amidst the awe-inspiring beauty of Whistler Blackcomb.
Come for the vibes, stay for the community, leave with new friends. If you’re a beginner, you’ll learn to ski and snowboard during a group lesson. If you have a bit of experience, we will help you improve through group lessons. If you’re higher intermediate-advanced-pro comfortable riding Whistler blue runs (which are tougher than smaller resort blue runs) and up, we’ll be enjoying each other’s company as we hit the slopes as a crew (no lesson).
Plus this year we are adding sightseeing for those who would like a chill day on the mountain. Family friendly hangout on top of Whistler or Blackcomb gondola, and peak-to-peak ride. Click for description.
Families with non-Black parents are welcome to join sightseeing to accompany.
Click to proceed to the application form for sightseeing
Only those who submit an application form will be considered for registration for this event. Deadline for submitting an application is end of day Feb 20th. We will be sending out confirmations around Feb 21-22. Deadline to confirm your participation is Feb 24 end of day.
Skiing/Snowboarding for Black identifying folks who:
- want to try skiing/snowboarding for the first time OR
- are still beginner-lower intermediate who want to take lessons OR
- are higher-intermediate/advanced riders who want to meet up with other Black folks for some laps (no lesson included)
Age restrictions:
– Lessons are for 18+ year old only.
– Youth under 18 are welcome to join the general meetup as long as they can ride Whistler blue runs and up (we don’t have capacity for youth lessons unfortunately). Please fill in a separate application for your child. Parents must stay with their children at all times during the event.
– Sightseeing is all ages.
Options:
1)
For skiers/riders level 1-3, (explanation of levels here): $105 for the lift ticket, lesson and rentals. Regular price at Whistler is $440+tax for the peak season lesson, $300+ for the lift ticket , and $70+ for rentals, which means
you’re getting around $800 of value for $105. A great deal, if you ask us!
2) For skiers/riders comfortably riding Whistler blue runs and up: $42 for a lift ticket (no lesson included, but good vibes are plenty)
3) For those who already have a lift ticket/pass and gear: $0. You still need to apply and register for the event so we know you are planning to join and communicate logistics with you.
Transportation
We may arrange a private bus for us from Vancouver to Whistler and back so we can relax and hang out on the road. If we get 40-50 folks, the cost will be $20/person (we cover 60% of the full price). Otherwise, all participants will be responsible for their own transportation to Whistler via carpooling, sharing EVOs, or using the Whistler shuttles. We would depature from Burrard Skytrain station at 6am, make a stop in North Vancouver to pick up people that need to drive to the bus and leave car for the day. We plan to be back in Vancouver 8-8.30pm.
