Event Details
This event will be held on the traditional territories of the Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ peoples. We are grateful to recreate on this land.
We are excited to host cross country skiing for the first time in Ontario! This event will be held in collaboration with Horseshoe Valley Resort and is for BIPOC age 18+.
What to Expect:
We will start the day with an hour long introductory lesson to cross country skiing for you to learn the basics of technique, followed by a day of cross-country skiing. We ask that you make sure that you are able to join before registering or email us if you are no longer available as the space is very limited. At the same time, we encourage you to try something new.
Schedule:
9am: Pick up rentals and trail passes from the Nordic Centre
10am: Introductory Cross Country Ski Lesson
11am – 4pm: Free ski time
Gear:
Participants will be expected to bring their own cold weather gear/clothing. When you’re cross-country skiing, especially when you’re new, you are doing a lot of cardio and can warm up really quickly, so layering is key. Aim for a minimum of 3 layers from long underwear to wool sweater to jacket to take on and off.
Outer Layers:
- A shell jacket or just your regular winter coat if that’s what you have!
- Warm gloves
- Toque/Warm hat
Inner Layers:
- Quick-dry clothing (polyester, nylon or wool) – such as a thermal base layer
- Warm mid-layer (i.e. wool/fleece sweater)
Footwear:
- “Ski” socks are the best, bulky wool socks bunch up and actually make your feet colder
- Spare pair of wool or ski socks
Food:
Plenty of rich nutritious food! You burn lots of calories just to stay warm when outside in cold temperatures. An insulated Thermos of your favorite hot beverage or soup is STRONGLY recommended. You likely won’t be motivated to drink icy, cold water. Hot drinks will help keep you warm and happy!!! There is of course the option to buy food at the resort or nearby but this is always more expensive than bringing your own!
Cost:
$105 + tax ($118.65). This package normally retails for $166.29. Your ticket supports CTT creating more affordable, community focused events year round.
Colour the Trails Policies
All policies are agreed to upon receipt of payment. Please pay special attention to the following:
Regular One Day Events Cancellation Policy
This policy applies to smaller one-day events. We would like to emphasize that even when the participation fee is low ($10-100) it is important to show up as last moment cancellations make us look bad as a group in front of partners that help us to create affordable events.
- Cancellation At Least 7 Days In Advance: For cancellations made at least 7 days in advance of the scheduled event, no penalties will be incurred. Participants can request a full refund. In some cases when we pre-pay for spots with our hosts, we might need to fill in the spot in order to issue a refund.
- Cancellation Within 7 Days: In the unfortunate event that a cancellation is requested less than 7 days before the scheduled event, or no shows the following policy will apply:
- Refund: Cancellations made less than 7 days of the event will not be eligible for a refund.
- Penalty: A three months ineligibility to attend future events. We leave a right to cancel any registration of the person under penalty in this time frame. After the three-month ineligibility period has elapsed, participants can once again sign up for future events without any restrictions.
Content Creation Statement
We ask to respect our work and to not create content to promote any other brands or organizations using footage or images taken during our events. Our team is putting a lot of energy and time into creating community spaces with little support and unrelated organizations should not benefit from our hard labour. You are encouraged to share about Colour the Trails work as it shows the welcoming and safe space we are creating and word of mouth helps our community to grow!
